Almost two years ago, we shared a post outlining how we wanted to move forward, together.
Top of the list of goals was to register as a charity, which would enable us to promote ourselves as a more credible organisation, to fundraise and ultimately to reach more people than we would be able to if we remained just a community group. We’re now incredibly pleased to let you all know we have achieved that goal. Earlier this week, we completed our registration as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) with the Charity Commission for England and Wales. Our registered charity number is 1214999. Years in the makingWhile this development might appear to be the culmination of two years’ work, it is in fact so much more than that. Richard’s work to build a support network starting in 2021 with the launch of the Facebook group – which now boasts over 1,000 members giving and receiving support. Esther’s efforts to help others affected by LBD pre-dates this by a further two years, when she began offering peer support via email and through meetings on Zoom for carers, in partnership with Rare Dementia Support. We have been joined by Linda Buchanan and Debbie Durrant, who have shepherded our application process, and now form our Board of Trustees with Esther acting as Chair. Rich will act as Director and will be responsible for fundraising. We’ve also been supported along the way by so many other people without whom moving forward at this time would have been much more difficult. On behalf of all of us, thank you to everyone who has helped us – and to everyone who plays a part day in, day out, to make our community as strong as it is today. Comments are closed.
